Query: Hindu God...
Who is the favorite god in Hinduism?
Kaivalya
Jnani:
My favorite god in Hinduism is Lord Krishna. In the battle of
Mahabharata... the sermon by Lord Krishna... that forms the sacred Bhagavad Gita is an unparalleled document
in the history of mankind. Why?
The doctrine of Bhagavad Gita makes it clear that there is only one
truthful entity in the world and that is God Almighty himself. Apart from God Almighty everything else is the
work of Maya (veil of illusion).
Bhagavad Gita confirms that the theory of Advaita Vedanta is the only
subtle truth of life. The doctrine of Advaita Vedanta propagated by Adi Shankaracharya confirms the existence
of God as the only truth of life.
Bhagavad Gita also confirms that it is our soul atman residing within our
heart which has manifested the body and not vice versa. It clarifies that our soul atman is on its cosmic
journey of 8.4 million manifestations (an earthly journey of 96.4 million years). The moment our soul atman
reaches the 8.4 millionth manifestation... all is over for our soul atman
within.
Reaching the 8.4 millionth manifestation means reaching the end of cosmic life. No further life to manifest...
the soul atman liberates forever from the cycle of birth and death. In the physical manifested life one gains
enlightenment and finally salvation (moksha in Hinduism)!
Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita also emphasizes that to reach the stage of
enlightenment we need to practice absolute celibacy for a minimum period of 12 years. Following the path of
Neti (not this, not this) as practiced and advocated by Maharishi Ramana... one reaches the stage of
Nirvikalpa Samadhi. This is the stage when one can have dialogue with Almighty God on one-to-one
basis.
For anyone to gain enlightenment and salvation in this world... one needs to follow the path advised by Lord
Krishna (my favorite god) as detailed in Bhagavad Gita. The knower of Lord Krishna... Bhagavad Gita becomes the
knower of all. One becomes omniscient! The teachings of Lord Krishna explain to us the real crux of
life.
It is Bhagavad Gita (the doctrine by Lord Krishna) that teaches how to
cut across the shackles of the five senses and mind and reach the stage of enlightenment and
salvation.
