Define
Inner Self Inner
self... our real inner self defines the existence of human beings in this world!
If there were no inner self... we would not have existed! Why? Spirituality explicitly
gives the definition of inner self as the presence of a spirit soul atman within
us that has manifested the human form to work out its karma... remove the dross
impurities within!
The
presence of a spirit soul atman within a human being announces the continuation
of life from manifestations to manifestation... life after life! It is the presence
of a soul atman within our heart that explains the phenomenon of continuity of
life from one body to another... one phase of life to the next phase! Devoid
of the soul atman... a spirit within every living being including human beings...
all would die their natural death! Truthfully our inner self is the real self
of us. The physical manifest self... the human body is but a sojourn in the life
of every soul atman. The moment human beings gain enlightenment (kaivalya jnana)
the soul atman within regains its original pure pristine form forever! The
human body for all practical purposes is a temporal phase in the life of every
spirit soul atman, the true inner self within! The prime purpose of every soul
atman being reaching the end of cosmic life... the 8.4 millionth manifestation
when human beings gain enlightenment and finally salvation (moksha)! Manifestation
after manifestation... body after body the soul atman within tries seeking liberation
from the cycle of birth and death forever! Dominated
by our ego most human beings in physical manifest life think the human form as
the end of all! Whole of life we keep busy accumulating materialistic riches beyond
our requirements... fulfilling our wanton desires! When comes the time to depart...
all is left behind. The death of the body announces present phase of life having
come to an end. As
per the doctrine of karma... whatever be the closing balance of present life...
the same becomes the opening balance of the next manifestation! Mangoes simply
cannot grow on a guava tree. If the residual balance of karma demands the soul
atman manifesting in the house of a laborer... one simply cannot manifest the
form of a prince!
As we sow...
So shall we reap... so says the law of karma! In the entire Cosmos the doctrine
of karma is governing. Karma forms the bonding link between different phases of
life. It is only through the complex process of karma... the residual balance
of present life gets transferred to the next manifestation... the next form of
life! The moment
entire karma gets burnt in its entirety... human beings reach the stage of Mahavira,
Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ or Prophet Mohammed! The negating of karma in its
entirety becomes possible after establishing absolute control over five senses
and the mind. Gaining absolute control over five senses is difficult in the present
manifest world! Only
a true seeker of spirituality... a humble servant of God... the traveler of the
path of absolute truthfulness reaches the stage of enlightenment and salvation.
Traveling the uncharted path of spirituality is difficult but not impossible.
The spiritual path can always be traveled while living in Grihastha ashram (family
life). It is not least necessary to go to Haridwar, Varanasi or the confines of
dense jungles to contemplate on God. Bhagavad
Gita... the most sacred Scripture of Hinduism on Mother Earth states that a perfect
Yogi is one who reaches the stage of Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ or
prophet Mohammed even while living life as a householder... in Grihastha ashram
(family life). Gaining enlightenment while remaining in Grihastha ashram is the
toughest task of all! When
I started in search of God 11 years of age... I wanted to leave the confines of
the family! During those times it was considered necessary to leave for the confines
of the forests (jungles) and indulge in extreme meditation in forlorn circumstances.
Contemplation of God in isolated places was considered essential for reaching
God. Subsequently
I realized it was not all that necessary. What made me arrive at this conclusion?
When I asked of my mother for permanent leave from the confines of the family...
she simply stated that if I ever leave the house... she would go to the nearby
Ganges canal and dump herself. There and then I decided to continue my search
for God while remaining in the family. Contemplating
on our real inner self... our soul atman within ultimately leads to god Almighty!
Through the process of controlled breathing... we slowly realize it is our soul
atman... the spirit within our heart that requires pure oxygen to survive. The
moment inflow of oxygen stops to our soul atman... it leaves the body to decay
and die. It is
only through the process of breathing we finally reach our real inner self within!
Pranayama... Shavasana... vipassana... most forms of yoga contemplate on the correct
breathing posture. Lying in the Shavasana pose of yoga... practicing Neti (not
this, not this) as preached and advocated by Maharishi Ramana... one finally reaches
the last leg of cosmic life! If
we truly desire reaching God in our lifetime... we need contemplating on the fact...
who is it that requires breathing... even when the body is lying in dead pose
(the Shavasana pose of yoga)! As the purity within us increase by traveling the
path of absolute truthfulness... we become more and more aware of the presence
of soul atman within us. Finally
we reach the stage when the sweet small inner voice of our soul atman coming from
within our heart can be distinctly heard! This voice of our soul atman... the
voice of our real inner self always prompts us on the right path. Prompted by
the sweet small inner voice of my soul atman... I finally transcended all barriers
of physical manifest life... reached the stage of self realization. Many
seekers of spirituality claim they are in search of their true inner self! The
terminology is wrong. It is not the body that has manifested the soul atman. Our
soul atman is the ultimate governor and master of the body. Our true inner self
is the real self of us. The temporal self... the physical manifest self is but
an outer garment for the soul atman within. Our
true inner self exists in its cosmic glory but is surrounded with impurities similar
as the existence of 1 kg of pure gold in hundred kilograms of gold ore. The moment
we remove 99 kg of impurities... 1 kg of pure gold regains its original pure pristine
form! Traveling the path of spirituality means effort of our physical self to
remove impurities dross within the soul atman! Our
true inner self... our soul atman... the spirit within shines in its cosmic glory
but we cannot realize the same until complete dross within gets removed. The moment
human beings gain enlightenment... it announces the soul atman regaining its original
pure pristine form devoid of all impurities dross within! Traveling
the path of spirituality... finding the real inner self of us is the ultimate
goal of every life form. Whether we do it now in this life or postpone it for
future manifestations is the sole prerogative of individual human being. Who knows
what we shall be in the next manifestation... why not realize our inner self...
the true self of us now!
