Query: Self Realization... I have the desire of God realization and have gone through the teaching of Shri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Swami Vivekananda. I deeply feel sorrow to find me apart from the god and desire to get realization as soon as possible. I am married and have my family.

I had some experience of meditation. That attracts me and forces me to depart from this world. At the same time I feel sorry for my family because they are my responsibility and I should take care of them. I am an IT professional. I don't find this life style very suitable for the practice of yoga and going forward for self realization. But this too require for the basic needs. Could you help me reach to the ultimate soul?

I feel deep sorrow for so and so... I have some experiences of meditation... I want to sincerely follow the spiritual path... unite with God Almighty... the ultimate soul... does it truly all mean anything! Can you leave your family midway... is it truly possible!

Siddhartha Gautama attempted it but miserably failed. Simply by touching the feet of his wife and child... one does not absolve self of the karma... of the bondage of karma that is continuing from millions of manifestations in the past!

Amongst 6500 million people... whoever we have met in this life... it was because of the doctrine of karma that rules the roost. In the whole cosmic system the doctrine of karma is governing! Our present body has been manifested by our soul atman to work out its karma... remove the dross impurities within!

The moment all dross impurities within soul atman remove... it immediately regains its original pure pristine form. One finally gains enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and salvation (moksha). Having gained salvation... it is a direct entry into abode of God... the kingdom of God (aka Vaikunth in Hinduism).

Why so much importance is being attached to the doctrine of karma! What is karma actually? What does karma yoga truly mean? As the metal within an ore cannot purify itself of its own and requires the requisite mining machinery and processes for its extraction... the soul atman also requires manifesting bodies one after another to work out its karma... remove the dross within!

We need always remember it is our soul atman that is on its cosmic journey. It is our soul atman that is the master and controller of this body... the human form! Our soul atman has manifested us... the human form to remove the impurities within! This is the prime purpose of our having taken the human birth.

As we sow so shall we reap... nothing less or more, so says the doctrine of karma! If the residual balance of karma of past life demands our taking birth in the house of a laborer... we simply cannot manifest the form of a prince! It just cannot be. In the entire cosmic system it is the doctrine of karma that is finally governing.

Every human being... every single living being we have met in this life owes its existence to the doctrine of karma... the law of karma! The bondage of karma needs to be abolished in its entirety! Only then one gains enlightenment and finally salvation! As long as the bondage of karma exists... we simply cannot get away from the clutches of karma.

Simply by touching the feet of wife and child... we do not absolve self of the karma that is ingrained within us! Your desire to travel the spiritual path and feeling sorry for your mother and wife is pitiable! Why? Siddhartha Gautama came about 2500 years back... yet; we have not learnt our lessons. We fail to understand... Simply by leaving our mother and wife we shall not accomplish anything whatsoever on the spiritual path.

There are not thousands probably millions living in Haridwar, Rishikesh, Varanasi and other religious spots of India in search of God! Most have left their family midway... in the circumstances do we expect these people achieving anything worthwhile in life. No... It shall never be! Without burning our karma in totality... we can never travel the spiritual path!

Take one thing for granted and that is absolute! We need to burn our karma in totality before we truly travel the spiritual path. Everyone of those dependent on us is our responsibility. Furthermore... we also have shreds of karma balance with other human beings in whose contract we come in daily life.

We do not meet anybody unless there is bondage of karma in between. For traveling the spiritual path truthfully... we need to absolve ourselves forever from the bondage of karma from each and every individual concerned. If we have interacted with 15,000 people in present life... we need to free ourselves of the bondage of karma from each one of them.

This particular bondage of karma that continues from previous manifestations has been termed in Hinduism as Prarabdha karma... a form of karma the fruits of which become available to one right now or many manifestations henceforth. This is the only hidden factor in the doctrine of karma that makes the spiritual journey long.

Every human being has been ordained a journey of 12.4 million earthly years (a total of 1.1 million manifestations) in the human form to reach the stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and finally salvation (moksha). Enlightenment and salvation is not that easily achieved! This can be gauged from the fact, in the last about 150 years only two persons gained enlightenment!

They were Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana! Everything ordained by God Almighty in the cosmic system is perfect. We only need to understand the underlying... the ingrained nuggets of spirituality that propel our spiritual journey!

Think for yourself... why you married at all! If you desired traveling the spiritual path... you should have remained a bachelor! It was not to be. The residual balance of karma of your soul from past life demands your marrying in this life. It was purely your karma that you married... you were destined to do so! You are not in the wrong!

If we are born to certain parents... all depends on the balance of karma from previous manifestations! Those who criticize their parents for one thing or other are wrong... it is our karma of the past that we are born to our parents... neither our parents nor are we in the wrong! In the cosmic system it simply happens for it is our soul that has manifested the human form!

Ever since every soul atman started on its cosmic journey... the ultimate goal of life is... removing all dross impurities within and regaining the original pure prime pristine form! This means the human form reaching the stage of enlightenment... the 8.4 millionth manifestation... the last in the cosmic life cycle!

The desire for traveling the spiritual path is ingrained in every human being! Those with a bloated ego, wanton desires and greed for materialistic riches do not ever realize the truth of their life! For them the present life itself is the end of all.

If we desire traveling the spiritual path in this life with full sincerity... we need completing our responsibilities in totality! We simply cannot abstain from them. Simultaneously we can proceed on the spiritual path intermittently! Traveling the uncharted path of spirituality is extremely difficult... yet, not impossible!

You say... you want to realize God within this life! I would never say it is not possible. But it is quite possible not in present but many lives ahead you realize God. Why? For reaching the stage of realization... we have a total of 1.1 million manifestations in the human form... it is not a short journey by any means!

In the cosmic system there is no place for desires or wishes. Also whims and fancies carry no meaning! Almost 90% e-mails I receive say... they want to gain enlightenment... self realization within this life! They simply have a desire or wish... but not the commitment to complete the journey. None wants to suffer on the spiritual path!

How many times I had to eat hell for breakfast... how many contemplations of suicide... I simply do not remember! I continued my journey without break. Traveling the spiritual path is simple but toughest of all tasks that human beings face in life. For commoners to conceive the travails of the spiritual path are out of bound... the prime reason why people shun the spiritual path.

In the present circumstances maintaining a balance between the two is the call of time! Fulfilling our basic necessities and simultaneously following the spiritual path silently is difficult to practice... not impossible! I have done it... I can say it with authority! Not one in a billion (not million) succeed in doing that... it is really tough to follow the spiritual path while living in Grihastha ashram (family life).

Bhagavad Gita... the most sacred Scripture of Hinduism on Mother Earth terms such travelers of the spiritual path as the highest yogis of the lot. If we truly desire traveling the spiritual path from within... we must definitely indulge in more of hard work than hearsay. We need to understand truly the meaning of meditation (yoga in Hindi).

Meditation is simply not about sitting in a dark room concentrating on the centre of a dimly lit bulb. Yoga (termed meditation in English) means the effort of our soul atman wanting to unite with the supreme soul... Brahman... God Almighty... Parmatman forever! Meditation Yoga is all about human beings assisting the soul atman within in reaching its goal of life!

Ever since our soul atman separated from its source... the ultimate goal of life for every soul atman is merging with the supreme whole... God Almighty at the earliest! Every soul atman requires a total of 8.4 million manifestations (96.4 million earthly years) before it gets liberated forever from the cycle of birth and death!

At this stage of life you need to seriously decide the goal of your life. Having a goal in life is journey half completed. In absence of a goal life is like a rudderless boat going round and round in the ocean. Almost 99% people world over do not have a goal in life. Initially fix the goal of your life and then embark on the journey of spirituality with the vigor exercised by Winston Churchill with all eggs in one basket!

No matter what your goal of life is... you shall accomplish it provided you seriously want to do it! Mounted with the special power of discrimination given by God Almighty to all human beings that distinguishes us from animals... most human beings traverse even the most difficult part of spiritual life! What we only need is the bulldog determination of Winston Churchill!
