If we did not have a soul atman... we would not be here asking this query. Why? For the simple reason that it is our soul atman that has manifested the body and not vice versa. It is not within the capability of the body to manifest a soul atman within. Every soul atman manifests a cycle of 8.4 million manifestations on the whole to remove the impurities within (the dross within). Similar as the metal within the ore cannot purify itself on its own.

To regain their original pure pristine form... every soul atman has to work out its karma and that is possible only after it manifests a body. Starting from the first manifestation as an amoeba (single cell formation)... it further evolves into multi-cell formation, insect life, plant life, animal life and finally the form of a human being. Only after crossing a series of 7.3 million manifestations does the soul atman manifest the form of a human being.

In the human stage alone we have 1.1 million types of manifestations that require an earthly journey of 12.1 million years. Does this mean that for a human being to reach the level of enlightenment we have an earthly journey of 12.1 million years available... yes, the truth is so! Enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) is not attained that easily. In the last about 150 years only two persons gained enlightenment amongst 6500 million people living on Mother Earth.

They were Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana. Becoming a Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ or Prophet Mohammed in ones lifetime is highly commendable. The journey is tough, uncharted yet not unachievable! The cosmic journey of the soul atman within ends with one gaining salvation (moksha) in the end. Thereafter for the soul atman it is a direct journey to the kingdom of God (aka Vaikunth in Hinduism).

Furthermore the residual balance of karma of all the previous manifestations decides what the next manifestation would be. The residual balance of karma from one manifestation to the next gets carried through the complex process of DNA and chromosomes.

As is our karma... so shall be the next manifestation! If the residual balance of karma demands our being born in the house of a king... it is not possible that our soul atman manifests life in the house of a laborer.

The journey of life is as clear as the balance sheet prepared by a chartered accountant. The closing balance of one year becomes the opening balance of the next year. Similar is the case with cosmic journey of our soul atman within. To blame God for anything is ridiculous.

All is the result of a karma that cannot err! In the house of God nothing is disordered at any stage as has been anticipated by the famous physicist Stephen Hawking in his book, "a brief history of time".

God never plays dice... in the house of God... in the whole cosmic system everything moves with such perfection that chances of error are not only remote but almost nil.
